Leadership qualities in Lord of the Flies
...ized one. Then there is Simon, who is also smart, quiet, repressed and under heard. There is Ralph, this oldest most decisive yet unfortunately unbalanced boy. Last there is Jack, the fierce, powerful and persuasive one who contradicts Piggy and Simon. In my opinion, the best overall leadership quality to have is common sense. While Piggy and Simon posses this quality, they don't have the initiative or ambition needed to unitize this common sense amongst a large group. Jack has the initiative and motivational ability to utilize common sense in a leader position, but he doesn't have much common sense at all, which makes him a poor candidate. Ralph, on the other hand, may not have as much common sense as say, piggy, but he has some, and the ability to use it. This is one of the reasons why I think Ralph would be the best overall leader. Not only in the category of common sense, but in responsibility, honesty and decisiveness does Ralph have promise. Now you may think that Jack may be more powerful, Piggy may be more reasonable and Simon may be more compassionate, but Ralph has enough of each of the qualities to be the best possible leader.
