Although wine has received by far the most attention for its health benefits, a cardio-protective effect can be also shown for beer and spirit drinkers. Alcohol reduces the stickiness of the blood and helps steer cholesterol away from blood vessel walls. The reason why red wine is known to be so beneficial to the human body is because it contains substances called flavonoids, which gives red wine its colour and are also found in fruits and vegetables. Flavonoids also act as antioxidants that may also prevent certain cells in the blood from clumping together and causing blockages.
