...the mouse. “honest. They also said something about coming back.” “ This is horrible,” said Komo D in a worried voice. “ I have to do something, anything. If only I wasn’t so afraid of the bigger dragons.” “Well, it is better to risk your life trying to help yourself and others, then to risk your life by not saying anything. If you ask me, you’d die for a very noble cause.” “Those are very wise words,” said Komo D. And he noticed the little mouse had risked his life by telling him about the poachers, at the risk of being eaten. “You are very brave, and I will follow in your example,” proclaimed Komo D. “Also even though I can’t find any deer I will not eat you and for that I’m grateful.” With that the little mouse ran away. Komo D. didn’t know what to do. He was still afraid of the bigger dragons. If he didn’t say anything he ran the risk of going hungry. Or worse being eaten by another dragon who was going hungry. So with that thought he collected all his courage and went to find the bigger dragons. On the way Komo D. tried to think of a way to tell them. Should he run by them yelling it or should approach them calmly and try to talk to them rationally. He knew how he should tell them though. If he wanted them to listen he would have to approach them showing that what he had to say was very important. That it has to do with all the komodos big and small alike. With all that thinking Komo D. hardly realized that he was nearing the bigger komodos den. All of a sudden he had the urge to run up a tree. He fought the urge and recalled the tiny mouse’s wise words. Slowly Komo D. walked up to the den. He looked inside and saw about three large dragons. They were very fat and looked like they had just eaten a very big dinner. “Pardon me,” said Komo D. remembering his manners. “I have something very important to tell you.” “What do want?” said the biggest of the three. “Who do you think you are storming in here without an invitation.” “Right,” said another one of the dragons “who do you think you are?” “I’m Komo D. and if you please this is very important. It has to do with the deer we eat and why it’s been so hard to find.” “Ha, ha, ha” laughed the first dragon, “this little midget dragon thinks he knows more about deer than I do.” “What a dumb dragon,” said the second. “there are plenty of deer to eat and if I wasn’t so full I’d eat you right now.” “Wait,” said the third dragon, who had kept quite the whole time. “let him talk, I have noticed a shortage of deer and I would like to know where they’ve all gone.” “Poachers!” said Komo D. “they are taking all are deer and if we don’t do something that’s it for us” “Who did you hear this from?” asked the third dragon. “Well, um , a little mouse told me. He says he saw the whole thing and I believe him.” “ A mouse told you!!” yelled the first dragon. “You believe a mouse, no wonder your so small, instead of listening to your food you should try eating it.” “Good one” said the second komodo. “You guys have to listen to me” cried Komo D. “We don’t have to listen to anything you have to say, you’re a foolish dragon and if I were you I’d run away right now, dinner is over and you look like a nice dessert.” Komo D. didn’t know what to do, the bigger dragons weren’t listening to him and he was in danger of being eaten. Slowly he turned around and walked sadly back to his own den. Poor Komo D. didn’t know what to do. He tried to help but what could he, a little dragon, do all by himself. That night he went to bed worried and scared. A little after he fell asleep he heard a familiar voice. “Psss! Psss! Komo D. I saw the whole thing, but now it’s all up to you.” “Oh it’s you” said Komo D. to the mouse “If you saw the whole thing then you also saw that I’ve done all I could. Now leave me alone.” “No,” said the tiny mouse you have to be brave and do something. If the bigger dragons won’t help you then you’ll have to help yourself.” “What can I do? I’m just a little dragon and no one wants to help me, the bigger dragons laughed at me and maybe they’re right. Why should I listen to you?” “ Because you have to! Imagine a world without komodo dragons. Just because your small doesn’t mean you can’t do anything. If I thought that way then I would have never answered your question when you were hunting earlier. I’ve done my part, now do yours. Komo D looked at the little mouse a realized how small he really w...
