...It weighed from 50-70 pounds. Knights wore layers of body armor. The innermost layer was a knee length coat that was called an Aketon. After that they wore a kind of armor that was called chainmail. Chainmail was made up of small metal rings that linked together. But arrows could still get through it. It sometimes was made up of more that 200,000 little rings. Then they wore a coat of metal plates. They eventually covered their hole body with plates. These plates covered the chest, back, arms, and legs. They even wore metal gloves to protect their hands. In the first half of the 15th century armor was called Gothic. Armor was supposed to give the most protection but it also was supposed to give the littlest amount of weight. Knights used alot of weapons. The knight’s favorite weapon was his sword which was held in the left hand. A knight on foot used real weapons. His sword was longer and heavier so it took two hands to swing. The handle was usually covered with satin or soft velvet. Rich knights had jewels on the handle. A sword weighed about 2 pounds. The crossbow was a strong weapon. They put bees wax on the end of the arrow so that it would go right through the armor plate. They used a lance made of woodpart . For entertainment knights participated in two main events. The Joust and the Melee. In the Joust one knight tried to knock the other knight off of his horse with a lance. The knight who won kept the armor of the knight who lost.
