Keystone Species

... are more powerful and of more importance than others. To determine if a “keystone species” is a critical keystone in its community one could observe if it is a significant producer or destroyer. By doing this you could see if other species thrive on the destruction or production of this species. Man is a “keystone species”, in a very different way than other types of species. Man can alter, control and manage other species to benefit one another. For example man can extirpate a certain species out of a community and leave a few to maintain the balance in the ecological community. This is how man can alter the environment and manage it to its convenience. Man is critical to the survival of the ecosystem because man is a type of tool for the environment. Man can take the place of certain species that cannot survive in any type of environment. It is easier for man to adapt to a specific environment than it is for any other type of plant or animal. Each species has an important role, or place in the biodiversity of the earth. All species have tasks to carry out to maintain the balance in an ecological community and the environment as a whole.
