Heart disease and strokes are the first and third leading cases of death that are associated with a diet high in saturated fats, and salts. These diseases are from an accumulation of lipids, and other materials in the arteries. Another effect of a diet high in fat and cholesterol is high blood pressure. Each year cardiovascular disease accounts for about one million deaths. Which will cost the U.S. approximately two hundred and sixty billion dollars (Wadsworth). Not only will cardiovascular disease clam the lives of billions, but also there are many different kinds of cancers to worry about. 23.3 % of the U.S. will die from cancer. A third or more of the deaths from cancer will be linked to their diet (Wadsworth). Although the average age of the deaths form these diseases is roughly thirty and above. When taking care of your body’s nutrition, starting early can protect you form many of these poor nutrition related diseases. Carelessness about food choices from youth and on, can be a major contributor too many of to days chronic disease. Another problem Americans have is not eating adequate amounts of needed vitamins and minerals, manly due to the large conceptions of junk food. Many people have forgotten what real food is. Rather then eating healthy home cooked meals, Americans eat high calorie, high fat foods that are easily available, inexpensive, and heavily advertised. In an average classroom size with about 30 students, on average, 78% will eat junk food four times a week (Whitney 102) Too much junk food can replace healthier foods that you body needs. According to a recently published report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 31% of total calories from the average American’s diet comes from snack foods. Many people have become accustom to this type of junk food diet. The body will get used to the high fat, high cholesterol foods. Which is why the body craves junk food, instead of an apple or orange. Improving your nutrition is difficult, but not impossible. Starting out by immediately trying to eat a perfect diet will only result in failure. Successfully improving your nutrition takes patience.
