Walsh saw this as one of the key components to returning them safely home and bringing their abductors to justice.. He himself had difficulty getting national exposure for his son and by the time he did, it was too late. His work also led to the passage of the Missing Children Act of 1982. This led to the development of the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children which offers a toll free hotline to report a missing child or the sighting of a child. He has written two books dealing with this subject and continues to lobby for victim’s issues. The advantages to John Walsh’s aggressive and public means of dealing with this problem are numerous. Because of the actions he took, countless other families have been helped and many children have been returned home quickly. It put a face to the movement for children’s advocacy and protection.
