... more year to live. But with all the medicaments he took, he could manage his life without huge problemes. In 1953 he was elected for Senator of Massachussetts. He won the reelection with 73,6% of the votes. In 1960 he stood for the office of the President. He fought against Richard M. Nixon. Kennedy won with a majority of 0,1 % of the votes. That made Kennedy to the youngest elected President in the history of the United States of America. On January 20th 1961 JFK took his Oath Of Office and in his first speech as President he said the famous sentence: "Don't ask what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country!" His presidential term At the beginning of his presidential term he concerned about the crisis in Cuba. Some military actions failed which lessened his authority in the world but increased his authority inside the USA. In 1961 the "Berlin Wall" was built but Kennedy couldn't interfere. He could just show his solidarity with the citizens which he did in his famous speech in Berlin. Kennedy forced the involvation of the USA in the "South-East-Asia-Conflict". He was responsible for sending military troops to Vietnam. The USSR built up rockets in Cuba. Kennedy forced them to take the rockets back. That brought the world to the edge of a nuclear war. But Kennedy's forces succeeded and the USSR took their rockets back. In 1963 Kennedy had his biggest foreign policy victory. He signed a contract with Nikita Chruschtschow which should stop nuclear attacks. This contract was the first step to end the "Cold War". The assassination In 1964 Kennedy wanted to stand again for the office of the President. So he went vote-getting in Dallas/Texas. His popularity had lessened very much there because of some political decisions. The President had received some assassination-threats but it seemed as if they weren't serious. On November 22nd 1963 John F. Kennedy, his wife Jackie and Gouvener John Connally with his wife Nellie were together in the car. The column started at the airport. They drove through the centre of Dallas. At 12.30 the first shot just frightened the audience. The next shot hit John F. Kennedy's neck. The third shot tore away his skull. Gouverner Connally was also hit by a shot. But he survived the attempt. Kennedy and Connally were brought to the Parkland Memeorial Hospital where Kennedy was declared dead at 13 o'clock.
