Kennedy responded by a naval blockade, which would prevent deliveries of more missiles into Cuba. U.S. had 180 naval ships in the Caribbean, prepared to confront the Soviet freighters; B-52’s armed with nuclear bombs, and nearly 250,000 troops in Florida waiting to invade Cuba.
