You learn that Jimmy loves football and is good at it, and wants to be a professional footballer playing for his favourite club, Manchester City. However, it is also clear that Jimmy doesn’t believe in himself and lacks self-confidence; he thinks he is a nobody. A major theme in this movie is self-belief. If you don’t believe in yourself and have confidence that you can succeed at something you really want, then you will never achieve your dreams and goals. This theme is portrayed throughout the film. The first instance you find out Jimmy has no confidence is when he is in front of the mirror saying to himself that he is a “nobody”, a ‘kak’. Later in the film he is confronted and bullied by Gordon but doesn’t have the confidence to stand up for himself as he thinks he can’t do anything about it. Similarly, when he is on the soccer field it is clear he thinks he will play poorly when he is being watched, and of course this is what happens.
