This palace is currently an art museum. During the fascist period of the 1920’s and 1930’s the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini had his office there. There are many magnificent fountains in Rome. The Trevi fountain is the most popular with tourists. A legend says that if you throw coins over your shoulder into this fountain you will someday return. The Colosseum is a famous attraction. This was a place where gladiators came to fight while the Romans watched. The gladiators often fought against wild animals, like lions. All of the battles fought in the Colosseum ended in death. Either the animal or the gladiator died. Population: The population of Italy is 8,087,257. However the population of Rome is 2,457,800. The population of men is 4,161,841. The population of women is 3,925,413. Rome – Italy Cont’d Climate: In Rome they have four seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter. Spring weather can be quit nice. The temperatures range to about 60o – 75of. In summer the temperatures are from 80o – 90o with 85% humidity. Most people leave the city and go to the seaside to stay cool. Most people do not have air condition in their homes. In the fall, the temperature is best to tour Rome around 70o. Winters are mild with low temperatures around 35o - 45o. Culture: The currency used in Rome is the Euro. One Euro equals one American dollar. The language they speak is Italian.
