James bond trailers
... the movie which all fall in with the genre specifics of the film, there is a car chase, explosions a plenty, unbelievable stunts and clips from gun fights. However, the only voice heard is The Voiceover (the familiar American trailer voice) that suggests the trailer was intended for an American audience and the lack of lines from the film leaves the storyline a mystery and the audience wanting to know more. The voiceover is extremely vague as to the actual contents of the movie featured in the trailer; it talks over the opening sequence of the trailer and sort of hints at Bonds character. It says “When danger becomes a temptation, when every move brings you closer to the edge, when you live each day like its your last, there’s a surprise around every curve.” Suggesting that Bond is still the character we all know from films before. He is a risk taker (danger is a temptation), prepared to face death in the face (Every move brings him closer to the edge) and that he lives in the present and doesn’t think of the future (living each day like its his last). It then says there’s a surprise around every curve. This suggests that there will be a big twist in the film or a huge surprise the audience won’t expect as well as hinting of his character as a womaniser by using curve, as in reference to the female body, rather than corner. The second trailer is significantly longer and reveals a lot more about the film. It begins with a camera shot through binoculars that are looking at Halle Berry, the new Bond girl, as she rises from the water. This is used in the film and trailer to both show what Bond sees and try to bring the audience closer to what it would be like to be Bond by looking through his eyes. It ties in with the presentation of Bond as obsessive over women and always on the look out for another woman he can ‘introduce’ himself to. Following this but supposedly from the same scene of the actual film is Halle Berry (Jinx) and Pierce Brosnan (James Bond) conversing in a seaside pub. Halle Berry tells him she is called Jinx and asks James what his reply is ‘my friends call me James Bond’. This is familiar to us as the audience as we have come to know ‘James Bond’ as his introductory title, which has never changed throughout the course of the films, what normally follows is either just ‘James’ or ‘Mr.Bond’. However, Halle Berry then replies with ‘Wow, now there’s a mouthful’ while glancing suggestively at James’ midriff. This comes as a surprise to the audience as we are used to James usually being the dominant half of his brief relationships within the films, but here we see Halle Berry making the first move. This contrasts with the usual presentation of Bond, as we are used to seeing Bond approaching the women in the previous and charming them rather than the other way around, films and it hints at a possible change in the Bond formula we, as the audience, have come to comfortably tolerate and, in some cases, enjoy. Following this is a similar barrage of cuts from the film as the previous trailer. The camera speeds over an icy landscape to focus on the main car chase/duel from the film. This is the old Bond we all know, duelling in his Vanquish. We always expect to see James Bond speeding around in a flashy car somewhere within the film, however this time the henchman of the criminal from the film has a car to match, complete with fitted gadgets and weapons to challenge Bonds’ own, another factor we have yet to see in a Bond film. Following this is a figure swathed in black running down the side of some kind of dome shaped ice structure, whom we suspect is Bond. A Bond film probably wouldn’t be a Bond film or be as popular as it is today if it was devoid of a menagerie of impressive stunts to wow the audience. This also enhances Bonds character as daring, yet more than prepared to take a risk to do what must be done as well as fairly confident of his own abilities. After this we are introduced, using a close up to emphasise the importance of the character, to the main villain of the film, who says ‘you’re a rare challenge Mr.Bond’. This we have also come to expect from the villain as it implies that Bond has beaten him in some way or form, but the villain won’t give up without a fight. Following this we witness Bond swimming through some kind of ocean or sea underneath a layer of ice, followed by his self driving up to the Villains ‘base’ in his vanquish, the ‘base’ idea is also a large constant within the films that we have so far seen. We are now introduced to another female character, un-named like the villain, who also appears to have a relationship with James. This emphasises James’ ability to get any woman he wants as well as outlining how he is never satisfied with just one woman. Lurking behind th...
