While this might not seem like a bad thing, he puts adventure before the well being of his subjects; even Ivanhoe tells him this. One Saxon in the film was Lord Cedric of Rotherwood. Cedric is Ivanhoe’s father and the beautiful lady Rowena’s foster father or guardian. Cedric disowns Ivanhoe after he follows Richard to the Crusades. Since Richard is a Norman and Ivanhoe is a Saxon, this was awful to Cedric who was a proud Saxon lord. One of his infamies is disowning Ivanhoe, although he might of thought it right. He also refuses to let Rowena marry Ivanhoe, although she is not in love with Athelstane. Eventually, Rowena is able to marry Ivanhoe with Athelstane’s permission. Cedric is also noble; his first priority is his people. Quite unlike Prince John, he is kind and loyal to his natives. One female in the story is Rebecca. Rebecca is a young Jewess whose father is Isaac of York. Rebecca falls in love with Ivanhoe, which is an infamy in her time. Jews were not permitted to marry Christians, or the opposite way around. Falling in love with a Christian was like committing a sin. Rebecca also puts her love before her safety, like when she was with Ivanhoe in the castle and was not permitted to, or when sh...
