Also the worshipper accepts the existence of angels who reveal to man God’s will, and it is recognized that the Qur’an is God’s revelations for man delivered through the prophet Mohammad and that he is not God himself or an incarnate of such. The Qur’an prescribes prayer 5 times a day with the worshipper prostrating in the direction of Mecca. The individual observes the prayer wherever they find themselves at the moment. The prayer affirms that Mohammad is the prophet of the one and only God. Before prayer the observer performs absolutions to cleanse the hands, feet, face and mouth. This indicates the individuals desire to pray sincerely and to represent the manner in which God absolves sin. All prayers are believed to be witnessed by the angels who bring your prayers to God on your behalf. Prayer is intended to remember Allah’s sovereignty and is a behavior that unifies and strengthens the individual’s belief in God and shares his inspiration for higher morality and to ward off evil or indecent inclinations. There is also a requirement to fast during the month of Ramadan which is the 9th month of the Islamic lunar year. There must be abstinence from food, drink, intercourse, and evil intentions or desires from dawn until dusk. Nighttime is reserved for eating, drinking, socializing and praying. It is mean to teach man, love sincerity and devotion. It attempts to develop mans conscious patience, unselfishness and will power. “When Ramadan begins the gates of heaven are opened, the gates to hell are locked and rebellious devils enchained”. Alms giving are a requirement for the devout Muslim. It is regarded as neither an act of charity or purification, but as a means of distributing a portion of ones net savings to poorer members of the community or less fortunate family members. The most complex ritual duty is the Pilgrimage to Ka’Ba in Mecca. The gathering and the prescribed dress indicates the worshipper’s equality before God. The idea of the pilgrimage represents the universality of Muslim way of life around the world. These activities are rewarded with the second major Muslim celebration of the Great Feast. When the believer has established a proper relationship with Allah they believe that their activities in their every day life will help to construct the ideal society that Mohammad developed the tenets for. Family remains at the center of social laws in all Muslim societies. Before the rise of Islam the family structure was based on a patriarchy and these values were preserved with the teaching of Mohammad. Laws related to the family including marriage, divorce, and inheritance the rights of children and relatives. By continuing to adhere to the prescribed behaviors and traditions it continues to develop Muslim solidarity.
