Is there too much violence in sports?
.... Coaches and parents cause most cases’ of sports violence although they are not physically in the game, they are emotionally part of the game. Pam Doyle, Founder and Executive Director of the Institute of International Sport at the University of Rhode Island notes that “the impetus is often the desire to win or to relive parents’ athletic dreams through their children. They are also operating under this delusional notion of the child’s opportunity for a college scholarship.” Frustration in sports can be caused by questionable calls from the officials, failure to make a play or heckling from the spectators and opponents. There have been many reported cases of sports violence that even resulted in death. It’s obvious that sports violence is a very serious issue. There have been twelve NHL incidents that have gone to court. The latest incident was Marty McSorley, where he was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.
