Is it Art through the eyes of Canadians
.... Their are limit to what should be shown and what shouldn’t, is Mapplethorpe’s art one of those that shouldn’t be shown or rules should be applied. Canadian should exhibit his works of so called art but have rules that apply to them. As a human being, what do we consider art and where due we draw the line when has gone to far. Art is considered, conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium. There for it has to be beautiful to be even considered art. Can we indicate that Robert Mapplethorpe’s pictures are beautiful? His viewpoints on the world around him can be intriguing to others, but people do consider his pictures to be a work of art. Mapplethorpe has open up maybe even a new meaning to art in a sense. Something new and exotic to the human eye to enjoy or even for people criticizes about. People believe showing pictures of nude females or males, is going to be called pornography rather then works of art. In Mapplethorpe’s views he believed it to be works of art. Nude female and male artwork has been around for centuries, its nothing new to the public not to show. Look at Rodin sculptures for instance or even the renaissance era in artwork. Do we have to band all those from the public museum because it showing cases of pornography of nude people, the answer would probably be no. There for we cannot just band pictures of nude people because they do not meet a certain taste or appreciation for someone. You have the right to choose whether or not to look at them. Would parents consider letting there children look at pictures of such caliber. There are many different types of parents out there, but probably they would all make an assumption that these pictures are not ready to expose there children’s eyes and curiosity to them either. That is why there should be an age limit to whether the person can see it. Like a film there is a rating system, G- for family all the way to R- restricted to those under the age of 18....
