Into the dark
...he already creepy darkness. Tree limbs scraping against the house, wind blowing hard enough to make the whole house creek and crack, and not to forget the unforgiving cold, for it has claimed a few sleepless nights itself. These were not nights for dreaming of sugar plums. Even if I could get to sleep, I’m not sure I knew what a sugarplum is. No matter how hard I tried to fall asleep, I would only end up scaring myself more, until one day everything changed. After getting only a few hours of sleep the night before, which probably affected my decision making ability, I told myself I was going to face my fear of the dark. After being tucked into bed I grabbed a plastic bag full of monster fighting equipment, assembled that morning. It contained a bike helmet, flashlight, lots of pillows, rope, and a spatula, to beat those monsters into submission. After suiting up, I knew what I had to do next. I turned the flashlight on slowly, leaned over one edge of the bed preparing to see a hideous monster. I looked under but only for a second, just long enough to see something green and black. Green and black I thought to myself, oh no! I bet it’s seen me now, I can’t look under there again now that it’s seen me. My mind danced with possibilities. I knew I would...
