...ence on her life was Dr. George Washington Carver. “Dr. Carver shaped my life,” Mrs. Thomas said. He taught and showed Mrs. Thomas many things. Dr. Carver once showed her some string that came off of packages and then told her that there was a second use for everything. To Mrs. Thomas, Carver started recycling. In addition to many other things he also introduced to her the Peanut Vanishing Cream. He told her that if she puts just a little on a day, the cream would make her into a beautiful princess. I had no idea when I first met Mrs. Thomas that she had accomplished so many things. Mrs. Thomas attended many universities over the years studying art. She attended the University of Mexico, New York University, Berea College in Kentucky, Northwestern in Illinois, and University of Paris. She also studied in India as well as different parts of Africa. She painted everywhere she visited. Each painting is used to show the culture at that time. For example, Mrs. Thomas said while she was in India she painted a woman walking with a basket on her head to display the respect she has for the country. She also believes that “every African-American should visit Africa at least one time.” To me she is also very unique. Mrs. Thomas started making her own Christmas cards when her daughter was nine. The sight on her daughter’s face looking at the Christmas tree made her want to capture the moment. She started out making fifty cards and today she makes over 500. In Mrs. Thomas’ perspective Tuskegee University has changed in many ways. For one, chapel was compulsory. It was mandatory for every student to attend chapel. After so many times that th...
