These divisions occur naturally in any society, but India became different when they were degraded into a birth based caste system. “The present caste system has been manufactured by men for the purpose of exploiting society. The original divisions of society are natural and spontaneous. They exist in every society under different names and designations,” Jahnava Nitai Das. There are three different views about the establishment of the caste system; religious, biological, and social historical theories. The religious theory, which Hindus believe, states that according to the book Rig Veda; Purush sacrificed himself for humanity and all Varnas (castes) were created from parts of his body. The Brahmans were created from his head, the Kshatriyas from his hands, the Viashyas from his thighs and the Shudras from his feet. One other religious theory explains how the Varnas were created from Brahma’s, the creator of the world, body organs. The biological speculation concludes that all existing things innate three qualities in different portions. The three qualities are called Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. The Sattva quality exhibits wisdom, intelligence, honesty, and goodness, while Rajas qualities include passion, pride, and valor. The last quality Tamas displays dullness, stupidity, lack of creativity and other negative qualities. It is believed that all people exhibit these three qualities in different quantities.
