Increased Border Security

...n transport between Canada and the US, is likely to suffer, as their shipping and receiving times will skyrocket. Businesspeople will be frustrated due to the waiting, and tourism is also likely to tumble. Trucks carrying indispensable assembly line parts will be delayed, as will those hauling perishable goods and livestock across the border. The two governments have implemented a “Smart Border” program, whose initial goal was to increase security while decreasing crossing times. Effective in the beginning, border crossing times have increased again, though. Evidently, many industries will be marred by these prolonged immigration times. Although both the Canadian and the American economies will be hurt by the increased security at the border, Canadian industries will be affected more than those in the United States. US economy is more stable and self sufficient, whereas Canada’s is highly reliant on what is going on in America, and is thus more prone to downfall due to such factors as increased border-crossing times. Also, both countries have spent millions of dollars implementing tighter border patrols to deter illegal activity. Due to it’s sheer size, the United States can easily shrug off these expenses, while Canada, on the other hand, will feel more of the loss; therefore it is evident that even though both countries’ economies will suffer, Canada will experience the greater effect from the recent increase in immigration times. Unlike in the 1940’s, the entire country is not involved in the war nowadays. Also, since Canada refused to participate, war will likely not play any major role in changing the economy. In the United States, few industries will benefit from the war, while others will feel no effect. America was well prepared for combat, as it was already investing billions of dollars annually towards its military, therefore the few industries that will benefit will be those which participate in the creation of munitions, combat transportation and the like. Aside from these, neither the Canadian economy nor the American economy will experience major changes due to the war.
