Impressionism vs. Post Impressionism

There is no single well defined style of Post-Impressionism. In general it is less casual and more emotionally exciting than Impressionist work. A more common definition of Post-Impressionism is that it is an umbrella term “used to describe a variety of artist who were influenced by Impressionism but took their art in different directions”. Post-Impressionism is a movement that started in France and immediately followed Impressionism. Post-Impressionistics generally were more concerned with expression, structure and form. For example Paul Cezanne particularly reacted to the lack of structure in Impressionistic work. He incorporated an “empirical geometry of cylinders, spheres and cones into his works.
