Edgar Degas and Paul Cezanne painted in the 1870s with the impressionist’s technique and Edouard Manet was a huge influence on Monet and the others of the group. The aims and objectives of these artists was an attempt to accurately and objectively record visual reality in the use and effects of colour and light, particularly reflection of light off surfaces. One of Claude Monet’s later works was called “A Bridge at Argenteuil”. He painted it in 1874 in Paris and used oil on canvas. In this painting there are three unoccupied yachts in a river, with a bridge in the background, a little further back there are quite a few trees and a house amongst them.
