In a hunting and gathering society every person needed to contribute in order to survive. The labor that each person contributed was different in order to help out the band. These jobs included hunting, collecting fruits, vegetables or seeds ad taking care of the children. Technology within a hunting and gathering society was available to all. The children of these societies learned by watching there elders and every person had equal opportunity. In the end everyone had a job and they needed each other in order to survive. Distribution was unique within the hunting and gathering society because it was based on reciprocity. Reciprocity is a cooperative interchange of favors between different bands or within a band. The hunting and gathering societies lived on this form of distribution because they had no form of storage. These people collected what they needed for a day or so and would share between the band or with other bands. This was done because one might have a very good collection but another person might not have collected enough food. Therefore one would help out another in time of need. This system caused each individual not to think better of him or herself because the band would look down upon that. The group needed to be at an equal level otherwise one might try to take advantage of another and if that occurred the reciprocity system would not have worked. The final part of the hunting and gathering society was consumption. Consumption can also be considered primitive affluence. Primitive affluence is the basic needs that one needs in order to survive which to a hunter and gatherer was looked upon as wealth. They collected at least what they need to keep their family alive.
