...s New Guinea separated from Australia? What effect would this have had on Aboriginal Migration? About 6000 years ago was when Australia separated from New Guinea. This would have had a huge impact on Aborigines' especially if they were constantly crossing through to maybe get food from the other place etc. It would have made more coasts though, and therefore more fish in the sea closer to where they were inhabiting. Also, for all that water to come that means that there must have been a change in temperature so they would also have to deal with higher heats and perhaps less food if the local animals couldn’t cope with it. Question 3. What does the information about treatment of bodies at Lake Mungo indicate about Aboriginal religious beliefs? By reading and looking at the pictures around the area of Lake Mungo and how the aborigines are buried, it seems that the Aborigines didn’t really have that strong a religious belief. The bodies around the area were cremated and had their heads smashed in, or buried under a layer of red ochre. I suppose if you would call that religion then that's OK. They did have some religious beliefs regarding death though, cremating and special burials, maybe to separate the persons spirit from the physical world, and in to the “New” world. Question 4.
