The unitive dimension contains the lovemaking and intimacy of sexual intercourse while the procreative dimension focuses on the creation of life from sexual intercourse. The Catholic Church has also taught throughout the years that, “homosexual [genital] activity, as distinguished from homosexual orientation, is morally wrong.” It is evident in the Church’s teachings that homosexuality is not appropriate but with the recent increase in homosexuality in communities and the public exposure it has received, the Church is slowly making it more acceptable. Finally, there has always been controversy involving married partners and how sexual intercourse with a unitive meaning is part of their lives. Many couples use contraceptives in order to express their intimacy without the possibility of procreation. The Church’s stance on the issue is that a couple may never suppress the procreative possibility of sexual intercourse and instead “make use of the infertile periods” within the menstrual cycle. Therefore, it is always open to the possibility of a child being conceived but is that the best way to approach this issue? Both of these methods for sexual intercourse are very similar to one another which makes me wonder whether contraceptives will be allowed by the Church in the future. ...
