I think that that could be a sign that mark twain was racist for writing that because it basically states that black people were thought of as nothing but property and that it did not matter if they were killed or hurt. And twain could have easily written that differently so that it wasn’t so bad but obviously chose not to. Proving that he, mark twain, was a racist. But another part that would prove mark twain was not racist and that he was showing how blacks and whites can get along is how in the whole story huck and Jim were friends and went on adventures together. And also, how huck helped to break Jim out and make him free. Although huck referred to Jim as a nigger and a piece of property he did not know any better and it was not his fault because that is the way things were and that is what children were raised and taught. Also in the book when Jim and huck are on the raft and get separated in the dense fog huck plays the trick on Jim and Jim gets very upset, which shows that Jim cares about huck and was worried about him. However there were parts of the trial in which there were useless questions asked. For instance the defense asked twain what his date of birth was and I did not see how that had anything to do with the trial so at that point I favored the prosecuting side. I do not think that the trial was done very well and that the prosecuting and defense people could have done better, and should have come up with better questions that would make more debate. And that some of the questions asked were repeated several times and made each day a little monotonous. I believe that if we worked on the trial longer it would have come out better and been more interesting. The final verdict was not guilty and I thought that it was a good verdict because there was not enough evidence given in the trial that mark twain was guilty and was not a racist. However I think that the prosecuting could have found some stuff in the book that would have helped them to prove that mark twain was a racist because in the book the evidence was about equal in twain being...
