How would society change if marriage no longer existed?

Health benefits that were a benefit in a marriage would no longer exist and these women and children would be left without adequate health coverage and would be unable to obtain this coverage due to the high cost and the fact that most low paying jobs do not provide health coverage. The working status of women contributes to their poverty status. In instances where the father bread winner is not a part of the family portrait would create the single female head of household. So, in these instances, women are being forced to choose between working and being the full time homemaker. Then, the type of jobs single heads of household can get depends on their level of education. Often, women have low levels of education and they get low skill level jobs that pay low wages. To further add to the financial stress many jobs pay women considerably less than they pay men for doing the same job. Poverty among women is linked to family status. Rearing children, being unemployed and single with no financial support from the father are factors that increase a woman's risk of being poor. The educational level of women directly relates to the woman's potential for being fully employed, underemployed or unemployed. If there was no longer marriage many more women and children would be added to the poverty level. What does it mean to be poor in our land of plenty?
