Home schools are actually learning at a faster pace because there are few distractions and interruptions. “Parents choose home schooling to have more influence over their child’s life.” (Lloyd). Reports show parents are home schooling their children because they are proving to be more mature and responsible than public school children. The kids are more mature because they are at home with an adult all day than around people their own ages and younger. “Homeschooling is now clearly more sophisticated than classroom education”(Pride). They are able to identify themselves with grown people. The home schooled children become more responsible because they have chores to do as well as there school work. Many kids do not have any chores that go to public schools since they are tied in with extracurricular activities. The main reason for home schooling to day is do to the increase of violence, drugs, and negative peer pressure that children today are faced with. Parents are afraid of a Columbine tragedy happening at their own local school. They want a more secure environment for their children and public schools cannot guarantee a safer place than home.
