...t, we went into the 13-15th amendments and the years of 1865-1873. We talked about things the president can and cannot do, like removing federal office holder, even his own cabinet members. This was all simply government review. Then we quickly went into the KKK and slaughterhouses. The election of 1876 came next, which clearly shows the government is shady. (I was reading a timeline in the book and it stated that Harrison won a later election over Cleveland even though Cleveland won the popular vote, and it reminded me of our past presidential election and made me think about how I believe that history repeats itself. And if it continues in this fashion, I don’t ever remember Harrison as a super-president, I’m not so sure the next few years in the US are going to be pleasurable.) Chicago History isn’t a huge focus in the book, so I’m assuming this was simply for our information on the side. It was enlightening and interesting, and it was kind of funny to see how much a little fire can change the face of a huge city like Chicago. Shows how people on the upper levels aren’t always the brightest candle in the box for making everything out of wood to begin with when there were other resources available. The next day we talked about labor unions and the railroads and Eugene Debs, and this is where I became thrown off. I’m not sure what you wanted us to get out of this section and what the main ideas were. The video we watched helped a little, showing how life was and how he got to be where he was, but there’s still something not clicking with this information. ...
