... be very for a punk band to be popular. Some of the first punk bands from the 70’s were The New York Dolls, the Clash, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Germs, and the Damned. Almost every punk band after this time was influenced by at least one of these bands. More noticeable bands of the 80’s were The Dead Kennedys, FEAR, Agnostic front, G.B.H., Black Flag, Minor Threat, The Misfits, and Sham 69. These bands had more difficult and complicated music then 70’s punk. Many people did not know that Punk rock influenced other music types such as Heavy Metal, New wave, and even pop. Punk was very popular in London, England and in New York. As it became more popular, it spread across the country. It wasn’t exactly popular but there would be a small crowd of punks in every city. By the 1980’s punk became too popular and trendy. People were saying punk was “dead”, because it became very popular. People started dressing punk to be cool, but weren’t true to the music. These people are called poseurs. (Posing as a Punk). Punk rock concerts were very cheap, and they still are. The price is 10 dollars at the most. There is usually no security and it’s usually at a very small venue. There would usually be more than 3 bands playing, and the last to play was always the most popular. By the 90’s, punk was being placed in different genres. There are many genres such as Crust Punk, which is political punk. Street Punk, which has harsh screaming lyrics.
