As a result, a wide range of public policy with respect to digital communications is currently being designed, debated, and implemented. Cable Act of 1992 On October 5, 1992, Congress passed the Cable Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992, commonly referred to as the Cable Act of 1992. The Cable Act of 1992 amended large sections of the Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984. The purpose of the 1992 act was to stimulate greater competition in the video marketplace and to impose new regulatory boundaries on the cable television industry with regard to its competitors and consumers.
