...ne of the story is that the women, Jig does not want to have the operation done. Additionally, the man feels that the operation (abortion) is real plain because he does not want the responsibility of a child. Reading the story I was unsure of what the couple was referring to as in the operation, but after reading into the lines and other sources I figured out that the operation is an abortion. One of the themes of the story is that the strong love for an person’s spouse can lead a person into doing unwanted things. Another theme is that avoiding or discarding a problem is much easier than dealing with it through communications. The value of having so much dialogue in the story is that it allows the reader to build such a close relationship with characters and to understand their inner thoughts. The stories we have read are usually stated in 3rd person and feeling are expressed through narration and descriptions, where as this story the only narration is in the beginning to express the setting and atmosphere of the sto...
