Heart of Darkness
...nd-hearted man many believed he was far from evil. This is what drives Marlow up the Congo River in order to meet, an extraordinary man. However, many do not seem to know about the interpersonal struggle that Kurtz faces. Kurtz has changed due to the constraints placed on him by his environment. As Kurtz traveled up the Congo River, he faced difficult situations in which he surrendered to. He gave in easily to beliefs and the European society mentality in order to adjust to the native environment, which leaves an evil that begins to reside in his soul. He begins to participate in horrific native rituals, which commences a struggle between himself and the horrors of his surroundings. Without the limitations that society has put on him, he has been able to fulfill his inner desires and also he gets a sense of freedom, allowing him to be able to interact and become respected by those who he was supposed to be conquering.
