While glam rock was actually around through out most of history it became most popular in the late sixties through about 1975 where it fell to the age of disco. Glam rock opened a door for society and delivered a better acceptance of differences in fashion and also sexual preference while many of these icons such as David Bowie and Gary Glitter were known for their experiments with the same sex. Short following glam rock was disco. Disco came alive approximately in 1975 with the death of glam rock. Disco not only proceeded glam but also used many of it's ideas from the platform shoes, flashy clothes, to glitter and dramatic makeup. The music of disco was a bit different though with artists who played little or no instruments at all. With disco came one of the most legendary clubs of this era, Studio 54 which opened in the spring of 1977 and closed shortly after in the early eighties due to the owners run out with the IRS and the rampant amounts of drugs being used. With disco came the explosion of the sedative cocaine, which is some opinions was the first "club drug" used. While many people boogied on the dance floor to such artists as diana ross and cher many also snorted lines of cocaine in the bathrooms and had sex on the clubs couches.
