Hacking

...kers were looked upon as a master of computers or like having a badge of honor. But with all the changes this time of day, they are looked upon as being a criminal or simply a person who does not respect privacy of others. Some of the information I came across while doing this research truly had me in awe; anywhere from the history of hacking to the most wanted of hackers today. Hacking in to computer systems may start off as a game to some hackers, but the majority of the time it ends up being a result of millions of dollars in damage. History History on hackers is very interesting to research. If you were to questions who hackers are and if they are harmless, it would depend on who you are asking. Some may say they are simply just pranksters, or curious technologists. As time goes by the world of hackers and their potential influences grows tremendously. Marc Rogers and Jerrold M. Post are two experts in the field of cyber forensics and psychology. Marc Rogers is a behavioral science researcher and was a former cyber detective and Jerrold M. Post is a psychiatrist at George Washington University. Both Rogers and Post found some behavioral trends in hackers who commit crimes. One of the main characteristics is that they tend to not really consider the consequences of their activities. They usually try to justify everything they do as if they really don’t believe they are doing any wrong. Some researchers call this the Robin Hood Syndrome. They are doing something bad but they truly believe it is okay because they somehow think they are helping others. The other main characteristic is most hackers feel that since there is not as much human contact, they think of it as a game and ignore the consequences. But not all hackers are criminals, there are actually a few different types of hackers. “Old school hackers” are the 1960s style computer programmers most of them being from MIT. But of course these hackers were looked up to for their great intelligence in technology. What these hackers do is not related to any criminal activities. They do not have any intentions of doing anything bad but they seem to over look the concern for privacy and personal information. They actually believe the Internet was designed to be an open system. The next type of hackers would be the “Script Kiddies or Cyber Punks.” These are the kids who most likely will or have gotten caught by authorities for doing something wrong. Most of the time they get caught because they brag to friends over the internet no less. Their age group varies from twelve years old to about thirty years old. Most of them again are whi...
