Guns N Roses
...earning and desperation that over listeners in waves. There are many things that will help in my defense of saying that Guns N Roses are the greatest rock band of all time, and I will be discussing all of these items in the next few paragraphs. They say that imitation is the best form of flattery if this is true Gun’s N Roses must have been trying to flatter many people, as it is rather ironic that some of the bands that are considered the greatest of all time were major influences on the style and attitude of Guns N Roses. Whether it is Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler’s little shimmies or dances on stage or Queen’s Freddy Mercury’s prancing and using a mic stand as a prop. Many people have even seen a resemblance between Axl Rose and Robert Plant lead singer of Led zeppelin in the style of their singing. Some people even say that Guns N Roses sounded a little bit like Metallica, but I do not see that at all. The bottom line is that none of these bands can hold a candle to Gun’s N Roses the greatest band of all time. One of the reasons why Gun’s N Roses is the greatest Rock N roll band of all time is due to the great song writing skills of William Alex Bailey, or better know as W. Axl Rose and Michael “Duff” Mckagen. These are two men who have a lot on their minds, and have a lot of problems with women. The first song on their first major release Appetite For Destruction, “Welcome To The Jungle,” which is Indiana born Rose’s impressionistic view of Los Angeles’s underbelly thru the eyes of a teenage runaway. One lyric states “ You can taste the bright lights, but you won’t get them for free,” this is indeed true as it took Gun’s N Roses a few years of slogging thru the cities cutthroat club scene before they made it big. Or you listen to another song on their second album Use Your Illusion II titled “Civil War” in which Axl asks a very perturbing question which is “ What’s so civil about war anyways?” or consider the other lyric from the same song “ I don’t need your civil war it feeds the rich while it buries the poor.” Both of these statements really make you think. The one thing you can say about Guns N Roses and their lyrics is that they shoot from the hip and they speak the truth and sign about things that happen in their lives. For example, in the song “Mr. Brownstone” which is also from the Appetite for Destruction album Axl says “The music starts around 7 and we take the stage around 9”, which is pretty accurate to when a Gun’s N Roses concert starts and when Guns N Roses actually take the stage, give or take a couple of hours. Many people may feel that possibly Led Zeppelin is the greatest rock n roll band of all time and not Guns N Roses. I would have to argue this point for a couple of reasons. One being that we are talking about two different era’s back in the late 60’s and early 70’s when Led zeppelin was popular drug use was more rampant and writing songs about it were the cool thing to do. Just look at the song “Stairway To Heaven” which I believe is on the Led Zeppelin IV album one lyric goes “and she’s buying a stairway to heaven”, which I’m sure we all know what they mean is that she is buying a line of coke and that will probably kill her and she will end up in heaven. Another point being that the drummer for Led Zeppelin Jon Bonham has been dead for almost 30 years, and front man Robert Plant is pretty much a decrepit old man who can’t really get around too easily. So how can you call this band the greatest of all time when half of their members are either dead or too old to perform anymore? Guns N Roses is now back out touring for the first time in...
