The ball has also gone through many changes over the years it started out as a small pebble or a leather ball stuffed with feathers. In 1937 a company in Akron, Ohio created a tightly wound rubber ball. The invention of this new ball made it easier to propel the ball long distances this changed the game of golf greatly. In the 1980’s there was another invention that changed golf yet again. This invention was the graphite club. Combined with the new plastic balls, this made it very easy to propel the ball long distances. Today, golf clubs are made from graphite and light-weight metal alloys. The balls we use today are made of mostly titanium, rubber, and plastic. The golf course has gone through many changes since the first courses in Scotland in the 16th century. The first golf courses were made from rabbit runs in the southern coast of Scotland in a place called the links. The first modern golf course was St. Andrews which is also in Scotland. St. Andrews was founded in 1628. The first golf course in America was in New York it was called the Apple Club it was founded in 1814. American courses differed from European golf courses because they had to be built unlike the European courses which were made from natural landscapes.
