United Fruit, a foreign company established in Guatemala which was opposed to Arbenz’s land reform organized a campaign against the Guatemalan revolution. The propaganda against the Guatemalan revolution greatly influenced the U.S who was at the time fighting Communist forces in Korea and the Soviet Union. The Americans realized that it would be beneficial for them to rid Guatemala of any Communist threats and establish an allied government that would be financially beneficial. When American armory began to arrive in Guatemala in May 1954, a plan was formulated to overthrow Arbenz. A group of Guatemalan rebels commanded by Colonel Carlos Castillo Armas who was specifically selected by the U.S government invaded Guatemala with the help from the CIA and the U.S navy on June 18, 1954.
