...s hard to tell which is mythologically true. In accordance with Homer she is said to be the wife of the lame and ugly God of fire, Hephaestus. Her lover though, was Ares the God of war who was later represented as her husband. She is also the rival Queen of the underworld, Persephone. The most famous legend of Aphrodite is of a golden apple, which was thrown in a banquet hall with the words “for the fairest”, inscribed on it. This caused much of a fight between Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera. Zeus refused to choose between them, so Paris Prince of Troy was asked to choose. After many bribes, Paris chooses Aphrodite. His decision caused the Trojan War to come about. Which then brings us to Hera and Athena. Hera is the Queen of the Gods, daughter of the Titans Cronus and Rhea, and sister and wife of Zeus, King of the Gods. Hera is the protector of married women and the goddess of marriage. She is the mother of Hebe; Goddess of youth, Ares; God of war, Eileithyia; Goddess of childbirth, and Hephaestus; God of fire. Hera was a jealous wife; she never forgot an injury and was know for her vindictive nature. Hera aided the Greeks in he Trojan War because of Paris’ decision of Aphrodite over herself. The Romans identified Hera as Juno. Hera was also know to be somewhat modest so would be likely to wear soft, flowing, moderate dresses. Athena was very important in Greek mythology. As the virgin Goddess she is known as Parthenosk “the maiden”. Athena sprang armored and full grown from the head of Zeus; she was also his favorite of all the children.
