Some interventions are very important in protecting the safety and well being of the people in a society. These include programs such as education and heath care and controls monitoring heath and safety standards. Public education is a key program that governments must provide. This is because education provides students with the skills needed to succeed in the world. When a person is educated, from a financial standpoint, is much more likely to be more successful which in turn will benefit the economy. Health care is also a program that the government must guarantee for its citizens. Health care is a basic necessity for people and by not providing this or only providing it for the rich, would be unethical to let someone suffer and/or die when the resources and technology are available to help them. Health and Safety standards are another type of government intervention that is important to ensure that foods are safe or restaurants are sanitary. Leaving this up to the market would be putting people in unknown danger. However, there are also some government interventions that may be unnecessary and doing more harm than good. Many government interventions into the economy can be viewed as expensive, unfair, or harmful. Examples such as crown corporations, welfare, and progressive taxes all are government interventions that could be eliminated or modified. Crown corporations give too much power to the government in the economy. Controlling key businesses allows the governments to have monopolies which cause a rise in prices and inefficient operation.
