The towns in the civilization were highly developed complete with roads, brick homes, and plumbing. There were several ports for trade and a monetary system. Despite this level of development, the civilization suddenly ceased to exist. Various groups invaded and ruled India from the Persians in 326 B.C. to the Mongols in 1526, and the British in 1857. British India was partitioned into India and Pakistan in 1947-1928. The dispute over the Kashmir region is a direct result of this division.
