We are living in a time period where we know the effects of internal combustion engines and diesel engines. But why are we still driving them? Why are more and more people driving sport utility vehicles (SUV) which get horrible mileage? The automobile usage trends are not improving but because of technological advances in transportation, we are building cars that are cleaner and more efficient in gas than they were in the past. With inventions such as the “three-way catalytic converter”, hybrid- electric vehicle, hybrid-battery powered vehicles, and hydrogen- fuel celled vehicles, we can continue to improve our air quality. With the evidences supported by this paper, I have to reject my null hypothesis: there is no difference between certain transportation alternatives that are better for the environment. I researched that the cleanest mode of transportation with regard to air is the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and the electric battery-powered vehicle. The hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is a true zero emission vehicle. The only emission that comes from the vehicle is water vapor. Unfortunately, the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is not in the market. On the other hand, a car that is in the market and that is very clean is the battery powered electric vehicle. Although the electric battery vehicle has to get its energy from a power-plant to recharge the battery, it only emits two pounds of smog ...
