He doesn’t want anyone to know about it because then they will know that his father stole it. He has so much love for the painting that is shown through his knowledge about the artist. So from his father to him the man will love the painting until he dies. The second story is about a little girl who is at an awkward stage in her life. She doesn’t know what to think about what is happening around her. She overhears her grandmother saying awful things about her. Her grandmother wonders if she can even think for herself. The little girl loves the painting because she can see that the girl in the painting is obviously thinking about something. She doesn’t really care what the girl in the painting is thinking about; she just knows that the girl is thinking. This is sort of how she envisions herself. She knows that she is constantly thinking about things and pondering things, even if no one else knows what she is pondering. And at the end of the story as she sees the painting in candlelight she realizes what her mission in life is and she now knows what the girl in the painting is thinking. The third story is about a man who is married and has a daughter. His daughter has been asked to marry a young man. And she of course said yes to the young man. While the man and his wife are watching their daughter with her fiancé they are trying to think of a wedding present to give them; something that has meaning from their house. His wife suggests that they give their daughter the painting, but the husband will not let her. He tells his wife that it reminded him of a girlfriend that he once loved. He wants to keep it so he can remember all of the good times he had with this girl. He looks at the painting every night and remembers the times that he had with this girl. He wants to keep the painting so he can remember her forever, because if he keeps the painting it’s almost like he never lost the girl. In the fourth story there s a woman that is married to a man she doesn’t really like. Her father chose her husband and she hasn’t ever been happy with his choice. She wanted the painting because the child in it looks so sweet and innocent. She hangs it in the drawing room because she believes it fits in well there. While she was watching an orchestra play she sees a musician that she had heard of. She watches him play for the first time and she immediately falls in love. As she watches him play she almost faints. She decides that she wants him to play at a party she is having. She arranges to meet with him and...
