Geographic Factors That Have Influenced History

The oil in the Middle East has been the major reason why the United States is so involved in over seas activity. Oil is what keeps the world running. Although the Middle East may seem like it has a low standard of living with extreme poverty to some Americans, small places like Kuwait that are filled with valuable resources of oil have become extremely rich and industrialized. Because of Kuwait’s valuable oil deposits, in August of 1990, Saddam Hussein, dictator of Iraq, invaded Kuwait to control their wealth and make their decisions for them. Saddam and his army stayed and controlled Kuwait for several months until U.S. forces drove them out in February 1991.
