Gandhi returned to India in 1914 and became the leader of Indian nationalist movement within five years. On April 13, 1919 a British general ordered his men to fire on a crowd of unarmed Indians protesting against the Rowlett bills, almost 400 were killed. Even through the drama of the Amritsar Massacre Gandhi was determined to win India’s self-government through non-violence. Around 1920 Gandhi began hand spinning and weaving because it gave India freedom. In 1930 Gandhi led a 240 mile walk to the sea with hundreds of followers.
