Fasting is a great example of Gandhi being a remarkable nonviolent protester, for he was trying to gain freedom for his country in a dignified way and at the same time trying to show others that nonviolence is much more powerful. Gandhi’s speeches are another aspect of his life, which sets him apart from all other famous protesters in history. He gave many speeches throughout his lifetime asking for Indian civil rights and freedom from Britain, but in a nonviolent manner. Great protesters have the ability to influence people, and that is just what Gandhi did. All of his public speeches were attended by large crowds of people, which showed that he influenced an immense amount of people through his ideas. He had a great impact on India through his words, which many supported and followed. Gandhi always said what he was thinking in his speeches, which is a hard task for many to do. He was not afraid of what people would think of him if he openly supported Hindu-Muslim unity, or vegetarianism, etc, making him a great protester. People then felt they could believe him and that he would do whatever he could to accomplish a goal. Therefore, he gained many supporters through his speeches, which helped to mold him into an infamous protester. Due to Gandhi’s relentless actions and unwavering beliefs through tough times he is distinguished from other protesters in history. When it seemed as if life in India would not change, he never gave up on his goal and kept striving to achieve it.
