.... To me a friend is someone I can trust, confide in, depend on, and am emotionally close to. Friends are people we enjoy being with and who make us laugh. A friend is there for you when you need them to be. People normally chose to spend time with their friends and enjoy that time spent together. Friends can be made in many different situations. At work, school, parties, or other social events you may meet someone that becomes your friend. I have known most of my friends for years and trust them with my secrets. I can always depend on them to be there for me when I need support. I met my best friend when we were six years old when our parents were, coincidentally, friends in high school. That just shows that you never know where you are going to meet your friends. People categorize their friends in many different ways and in most cases, the line between friendship and an acquaintanceship or casual friends is very thin. True friends or best friends can be defined as someone you are extremely close to and have known for a long amount of time. Although the time requirement may differ from situation to situation, normally best friends have know each other for a long period of time and can place a great trust in one another. Friends, a more general term, can be anyone you consider yourself close to and trust. There are no time requirements to become friends and normally friendships arise spontaneously between two individuals. The next classification of boyfriend and girlfriend normally refers to someone you share intimate feelings and contact with. They consider each other to be someone that they can confide in and love. This type of friendship typically occurs with older teens and adults; most young children do not have a boyfriend/girlfriend. There is also the question of who can be a friend. Some people may consider their boss capable of being a friend while others think they should not mix their professional and social lives. Personally, I believe that a boss can be a friend as long as you do not allow your professional and social roles to become confused. I have had bosses that I consider to be friends...
