It grows flower buds - usually one cm long, white, and hairy – two months before flower growth. The flowers are nocturnal and scented, white or pink and have numerous petals. These flowers mostly bloom in May, and fruiting from May to October. Cereus eriophorus var. fragrans enjoys partial shade and grows on dry sand soil in terrestrial areas, most of which have been disturbed oak-red bay scrub on dry sand dunes. It has been found to live in areas where water capacity, fertility and organic matter are all extremely low. Bulldozing has altered the originaly vegtation in areas where it lives , on the Atlantic Coastal Ridge. This cactus reproduces sexually through vegetative reproduction.
