...that a little boy could have gotten drunk just of his fathers breath. This confuses the reader. Because we get the image that Theodre’s father is a drunk. He uses words that portray a fun and happy atmosphere in his poem but with a little ambiguity. The main difference with the other two poems is that the father is alive in this poem and is spending time with his son. The son is actually talking to his father. This poem describes a simple set of actions over a short period of time. There is no picture of hatred towards the father form the son, but the reader is left to imagine if the boy was actually enjoying this dance with his father because of sentences like “but I hung on like death: Such waltzing was not easy” and “At every step we missed my right ear scraped a buckle.” But if you look at it from a different angle, this poem can be interpreted differently. A father who is back from a hard day of physical work, dose not even clean up because he wants to spend some time with his son before it is time for him to go to bed.
