... could no longer do so. This gate cost the taxpayers $1200.00 to have made and installed. By making this a 6.1 non-motorized area, the usage dropped from 97% to 3%. Can this be justified in serving just 3% of the people and cutting off the rest? If this road were reopened, the local people would again maintain it. This year the local Ranger, Katie Stuart, said that she was not going to maintain the Wolf Hollow Road, but that she would open the road a week before deer season so we could work on it ourselves. There were several people who worked on this road with their own equipment. The road is in better shape now than it has been in a long time. We would like to thank Ranger Katie Stuart for the extra week to allow us to work on the road. The U. S. Forest Service claims that it doesn’t have enough money to maintain these roads. Making it a 6.1 non-motorized semi-primitive area doesn’t help. If they stop cutting timber, there is no return on investment on the land. The local residents are the losers because the counties don’t receive any money off the timber sales that was promised to them in lieu of lost taxes.
